What is Qigong?

Qigong (pronounced chee-gong) exercises are practiced in many parts of the world but have definitive roots in China.  Qigong movements are for the most part done slowly, with attention to the breath throughout the practice.  The breath focus is essential for actual stress reduction to take place.  Other benefits of qigong are similar to other exercises such as improved circulation, increase muscle strength and flexibility, and improved heart and lung function.   Unlike aerobic style exercise, the style of movement tends to loosen joints rather than tighten them, so stretching after doing qigong is not required.

Qigong is best practiced outside in the fresh air, directly on the ground.   A peaceful place helps minimize distractions and maximize focus on balance and breath.  Awareness of our connection to the ground below is heightened by certain postures involving the knees and ankles and low back.  Reaching upward to the sky lengthens the entire spinal column and releases tension in the shoulders and neck.  Overall energy flow is more balanced and enhanced.   See the following website for more information:
