What is it?
Acupuncture is one of the oldest, most widely used medical procedures in the world. Traditional Chinese Medicine theorizes that the more than 2,000 acupuncture points on the human body are located on pathways called meridians. These pathways conduct energy or life-force from the surface of the body to the internal organs. The Chinese call this chi. When the flow of chi is blocked or imbalanced
on any part of the pathway, it may result in illness or dysfunction. Chi may be blocked by scartissue, infections and other illnesses, subluxations, underactive or overactive organs, poor circulation, stagnant lymph flow and other conditions.
The action of the needles inserted into the acupuncture point is how
chi is restored to the area. Chiropractors trained to use acupuncture can treat conditions of a more chronic nature that need a broader approach, including a combination of chiropractic and acupuncture.
